Acne and Causes

Acne

Causes

  1. Acne is primarily caused by an abundance of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), rather than solely due to excess secretion of male hormones.
  2. Acne can also arise from high levels of constipation toxins in the bloodstream, especially when severe constipation is present.
  3. While antibiotics may reduce acne inflammation, they don't address the root issue. Prolonged antibiotic use can disturb the balance of gut bacteria, allowing harmful bacteria and Candida yeast to thrive. This, in turn, can lead to absorption of colon toxins into the bloodstream, triggering acne.
  4. Adult acne can be triggered by factors like cortisol, lithium carbonate, chemical-laden cosmetics, and excessive facial cleansing.
  5. Middle-aged women can experience acne due to factors such as birth control pill usage and worsening symptoms during menstruation, often related to hormonal imbalances caused by irregular ovulation.
  6. Adjusting your diet to a protein-to-carbohydrate ratio of 45:35, and fat at 20%, can reduce the activity of 5-alpha-reductase, a enzyme linked to acne development. Conversely, a diet with 70% carbohydrates and 20% fat can exacerbate symptoms related to 5-alpha-reductase, worsening acne.
  7. Individuals prone to acne have skin cells that are insensitive to insulin, leading to improper utilization of blood glucose. Thus, there's a strong connection between acne and diabetes.

 Natural Treatment Approaches

  1. Balanced Diet: Consume a balanced diet with a protein-to-carbohydrate-to-fat ratio of 45:35:20.
  2. Include fish protein, soy protein, vegetables, fruits, and garlic in your diet.
  3. Vitamins and Supplements:
  • Vitamin A and Spirulina: These reduce skin oil secretion and pore clogging. A standard dose of around 5000 IU of Vitamin A is recommended.
  • Vitamin E: Taking 400 IU of Vitamin E along with 200 mcg of selenium can have anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Zinc: Boosts immunity, reduces inflammation, and aids in wound healing. Zinc deficiency can increase the activity of 5-alpha-reductase, leading to acne. Zinc gluconate is an effective form, with a daily dose of 45-60 mg for about 12 weeks.
  • Evening Primrose Oil and Omega-3 Oil: Effective for reducing inflammation associated with acne.
  • Progesterone Cream: In women aged 20-40, acne can result from increased male hormone androgen levels due to imbalanced ovarian function.
  • Chaste tree berry: which stimulates ovulation, can help balance hormone production and reduce acne.
